Key stage 4 PSHE/Developing Character and resilience
We aim to prepare Charles Darwin students to be able to:
-
Transition to a more grown-up mind set in negotiating relationships, personal health and life skills;
-
Developing relationships, behaviours and personal choices;
-
Taking personal learning into more complex and adult situations.
-
Developing understanding around sexual behaviours, identifying and understanding abusive relationships;
-
Adult expectations, behaviours and vulnerability in the wider community and world.
The skills and knowledge acquired through the PSHE curriculum are based around healthy communication and increasing emotional literacy to be able to negotiate challenging situations. The areas of emerging need for students are as a result of our pastoral information on students, SHEU survey from all Bromley schools and from our student voice. These skills also build more personal responsibility for managing personal health and accessing support for any issues, including substance abuse (drugs, vaping and alcohol) and consequences of careless sexual behaviours (abuse and Sexually transmitted infections). Pupils are given opportunities to develop knowledge in self-identity and differences with others – applying the same skills to more complex and challenging situations. The themes of communication, boundaries and empathy provide the foundation to all the learning.
